《仙境传说》原着漫画由韩国漫画家李命进所著，源于北欧神话的末日战争“众神的黄昏”，以北欧神话为题材，背景是“众神的黄昏”数百年后重生的世界，是充满魔法幻想的冒险故事。著名同名网游(RO)就是由此漫画改编，同时还有动画片，小说图书以此为名。

故事的背景舞台是RO中的普隆德拉王国，情节也是忠实于原作，描述主角Roan和Ufa（青梅竹马的一对小剑士和小服事），与在冒险旅途中遇到的MAYA（可爱的金发商人MM）、Judya（皮肤黑黑的弓箭手MM）、Takius（蒙着眼的女法师））、伊鲁加（身缠绷带的刺客）等人共同的冒险故事。 　　

由重力社、GANGHO、东京电视台制作的以MMORPG《仙境传说（RAGNAROK ONLINE）》为背景的TV动画2004年于4月6日凌晨1点30分、由东京电视台首播。 　　

《RAGNAROK THE ANIMATION》是以异变后的卢恩·米德加尔特王国作为舞台、描写一对少男少女共同冒险经历的动画片。主人公是刚刚告别兄长之墓的尤法（服侍）和年幼的剑士罗恩。片中叙述了他们了靠自己的力量游历于世界、度过千百艰难痛苦而培养出纯洁爱情的故事。 　　

《RAGNAROK ONLINE》是以韩国同名漫画为背景制作的MMORPG、所以《RAGNAROK THE ANIMATION》的版权为原作者李命进、Gravity以及运营商GANGHO共同拥有。
